is famous for its exquisite beaches, most of which are distinctive in color due to the volcanic properties of the area, such as the black beaches of Perissa, Kamari, Monolithos and Perivolos and the Red and White Beach in Akrotiri. Other beautiful beaches are: Agios Georgios, Ammoudi, Armeni, Armenaki, Baxedes, Exomyti, Katharos, Koloubos, Pori and Vlychada. From Santorini, you can catch a boat to the volcanic isles of Palea Kameni, Nea Kameni and Thirassia that are located opposite the western side of the island.
Santorini Sightseeing & Museums
Santorini has been inhabited since ancient times and therefore has some exquisite archaeological and historical sites. Just open your map of Santorini to plan the ideal sightseeing tour. In Oia you can visit the Frankish Castle, the windmills and the Maritime Museum. Other impressive sites are the ancient ruins of the City of Thira, the relics of the ancient cemetery in Phinikia and the Minoan City in Akrotiri. While in Fira, we suggest you visit the Archaeological, Prehistoric and Folklore Museums, the two grand cathedrals and the Venetian castles. Throughout the island there are lovely churches, monasteries and vineyards where you can sample the famous Santorinian wines.
